Instructor:  Richard Ware

Description:   We will examine the characteristics used to identify woody plants in winter. We will concentrate on twig characters like: twig orientation (alternate, opposite, whorled), buds, bud scales, bud scale scars, leaf scars, bundle scars, lenticels, stipule scars, pith, spurs, thorns and spines, concentrating on the major deciduous trees in Georgia. We will view the most common types of tree fruits. There will be a Power Point Presentation with diagrams illustrating the above characteristics and close-up photos of the twigs and some of the fruits of the major tree species. After this, we will key out several species. Keys will be sent to those who register. Also, we will examine the photos of approx. 81 species of trees from my website (https://www.ngaflora.com/).

This is a Zoom workshop.  The presentation will begin at 1:00 pm and will last approximately 2 hours.  You should plan to login a few minutes early.   The Zoom link will be emailed to registered participants prior to the workshop.
