Field Trip Leader: Al Schotz
Description: The Bartram Trail is a National Recreation Trail located in Tuskegee National Forest. The trail meanders through an interesting array of habitat types typical of the Upper Coastal Plain. Participants can expect to see longleaf pine woodlands, upland pine-hardwood forests, mature bottomland forests, and seepage areas that are home to a rich diversity of plant and animal life.
Location & Directions: Coordinates for parking area: 32.47815, -85.61840. Directions to parking area: Proceed on I-85 toward Montgomery to Exit 42. Upon taking exit, turn left (south) onto AL Hwy. 186, crossing over I-85, and continue for roughly 1.3 miles to Forest Road 900 (gravel). Turn right (south) and proceed for a few hundred feet to parking area.
Meet At: The parking area for The Pocket Boardwalk.
Bathroom Facilities: None.
Walking Difficulty: Generally easy.
Bring: Lunch, snacks, & water. Remember to dress for the weather and wear comfortable hiking shoes. Dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and your activity level. You may wish to bring binoculars, hand lens, notebook, and camera.
