Description:  This year we will explore spring ephemerals two weeks earlier than in years past.  There are elderberry bushes, bears paw and a slippery elm tree with red galls on the large leaves along a spring fed lake. Large diverse hardwoods, such as oak, hickory, tulip poplar, hackberry, maple and occasional sycamores tower over understory red buckeyes, viburnums, and sparkleberries with a large carpet of Jacob’s ladder, spring beauty, geranium, delphinium, mayapple, toothwort and trilliums. Across a rocky runoff creek there are remnants of trailing bloodroot leaves. Toward the back of the property we will see lance leaf trilliums and shooting stars, among other ephemerals.

Location and Directions:   670 Rush Chapel Road, Adairsville, GA. 30103.
